Legislation
SCALI proposes and tracks legislation for two primary reasons. First, when legislation directed at South Carolina’s private investigators is introduced into the legislature we determine what affect it will have on our industry. When necessary we send representatives to appear before legislative committees to present our concerns. When necessary, SCALI works with House and Senate members to introduce legislation on our behalf. Secondly, many pieces of well-intentioned legislation can have an adverse effect on private investigators. The authors of such bills often have no idea how their proposal will affect the private investigation business. SCALI reviews such legislation and develops a strategy to best deal with it.
Annually SCALI sends representatives to Hit the Hill in Washington, D.C. During this national program sponsored by NCISS we bring SCALI’s legislative concerns to the South Carolina Congressional Delegation.
Anyone who has legislative concerns about the private investigator industry should contact the chairperson of the SCALI Legal & Legislative Committee listed on this website. In addition, if anyone is interested in representing SCALI on an upcoming Hit the Hill trip, you should contact the chairperson of the Legal & Legislative Committee to be considered.
